Our Mission

Big government is not simply the size of the budget, or the number of federal programs; it is the role the federal government plays in our daily lives.

We at the Lincoln Heritage Institute will not sit idly by and allow bloated bureaucracies, budensome tax policies, a failing public education system, and out of control regulatory system, and a growing disregard for the rule of law to become an accepted way of life

We have as our purpose, through public education, the revitalization and preservation of our traditional political, social, commercial, and legal environment in which the only limits to achievement are individual ability and effort.

The End Times

by Paul R. Hollrah, Advisor to Lincoln Heritage Institute

In Judeo-Christian eschatology, the “end times” is described as that period when the biblical apocalypse is imminent and when current events become recognizable as omens of Armageddon. But it’s not those “end times” that worry me. I am more worried about the “end times” for the United States of America, the “end times” that were predicted by British social philosopher T.B. Macaulay in 1859 when he wrote that our Constitution was “all sail and no anchor.”

What Macaulay was implying is that our Constitution is so inviting to liberal interpretation that we would ultimately liberalize ourselves into the trash bin of history.

We have laws governing the means by which aliens can enter our country, yet those laws are not enforced. And when the people pressure Congress to deal with the problem, Democrats block every effort at reform because they believe it will help them capture the Hispanic vote – as they captured the black vote two generations ago.

Our porous borders and our lax visa system allow international terrorists to come and go at will as they plan how to kill us. Yet liberals prevent us from doing anything about it because of their insistence that our constitutional protections extend to every man, woman, and child on Earth.

Our mainstream media have become such toadies to radical anti-war leftists that the American people now expect that all of our wars must be won in five days or less, and without casualties, or we won’t fight – not even to save our own lives.

Our judicial system has become so corrupted that most Americans are more frightened of having to hire a lawyer than they are of being killed by terrorists. Our founding fathers gave us a system of justice based upon an enforceable oath, yet when a President of the United States lied under oath in a court of law, most members of his own party thought it was okay.

We know more about disease, its treatment, and eradication than any other nation on Earth; yet many Americans make life-or-death decisions based on their ability to pay for medical treatment. Meanwhile, doctors admit that they would refuse to treat an American citizen who lacked the ability to pay, but they would not hesitate to treat an illegal alien without compensation.

One of our two major political parties has ceased to be a political party. They offer no ideas, no plan, no alternatives, and no vision for the future. They have so thoroughly poisoned the well of political discourse that there can be no mutual trust in politics for at least a generation. They fill the airwaves with outrageous lies and propaganda and they appear to be motivated by nothing more than hatred and an unquenchable thirst for power.

Our public education system has been captured by radical leftists of the labor movement; and although we spend up to three times as much per student as other western countries, our high schools turn out graduates by the millions who know little or nothing of geography, history, economics, science, or mathematics. Many are incapable of reading or writing a simple declaratory sentence.

Our college and university faculties have become havens for the kookiest of left-wing ideologues and propagandists, all of them hiding behind the veil of “academic freedom.” They are so intent upon indoctrinating our children that parents rightly fear what their children might become in just four short years of exposure to them.

Looking at the state of the nation it is easy to become discouraged. It is even possible to visualize the violent end of our great experiment in representative government…but all is not lost. We may yet be saved.

In Michigan, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, bright, articulate black Republicans are running for seats in the United States Senate and the governors’ mansions. It is conceivable that at least three of the four will be elected, and if that happens the first major crack in black solidarity with the Democratic Party will be evident.

As that process continues, blacks will begin to understand that by returning to their natural home, the Republican Party, they can be part of a social movement in which they will be judged, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. The welfare state message of the Democratic Party will be drowned out by the sound of black feet deserting that party. And when that happens, the margins of power in Congress and the state legislatures will be such that the Democratic Party will be forever marginalized.

It may be our last opportunity to prove Macaulay wrong.
